What Is This Blog About?

“My Fellow Writers: Tell Your truth always. Family and friends may not like it or get it, but writing is about truth and healing.”~Kevin Powell

Attempting 30 is a lifestyle blog about all that a modern-day woman in her 30s entertains, chooses to interrogate, denies and is ambushed with physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

So why Attempting 30? Because I cannot be the only one who is trapped between the contradiction of being completely elated and incredibly afraid of being 30. Should I just keep telling everyone that I am 27 (because there isn’t anything specifically associated with or expected from a woman at that age).

A Tempting 30 because hell, I was exhausted from the teen angst years and definitely growing tired of the twenties and everyone said that 30 was supposed to be so much better. I was to uncover a deeper level of self-confidence and run head first into this decade of celebration. The idea was seductive, intriguing, and down right tempting.

Transition is what life is all about, but rarely are those shifts made without some conflict. Be it internal or external. I’ve always yearned for a reference book of life. What to do when, and how to handle those unexpected pot holes on the road to growing up, but my wishes have often gone unfulfilled.

After 30+ years of navigating the big city as an educated woman (spending most of my free time analyzing life when I wasn’t digging through the crates at Amoeba music), I took a break, moved to the suburbs and as vulnerable as I know how, chose to write in order to expose, explore, and possibly explain the missteps as well as good fortune that arise while attempting 30-because with no map, personal guide, or instructions, it truly is an endeavor of tremendous proportions.

Side note: Music is my drug. As my ode to musical devotion and to expose others to a variety of symphonic sustenance, all categories and some titles of blogs (title appears in quotations) and subsequent entries are named for song titles or lyrics.

Awwwwww. I’m going to be 30 next year April and I feel like I’m on top of the world! There’s nothing shameful in one’s age! It’s just sanner to accept responsibilities and grow the hell up!
